How to get to the hotel?
From Ferihegy Airport:
Take the ``Airport Minibus'' shuttle service. They have
service desks in the arrivals hall (turn right as you leave the customs
area). When buying the ticket at the desk you have to state your
destination (i.e. the name and address of the hotel). They start
a minibus (8-seater) when cca 6 people going approximately
in the same direction are gathered. Typically one has to
wait cca 5-10 minutes. The fare between the airport and the city
is HUF 2300 (that is cca EUR 8.5).
(Return tickets are sold at 3900 HUF , it is worth buying a return
ticket. You will use it when leaving.)
You may also take a taxi. In that case, ask for a special airport transfer fare which most of the taxi companies provide. Even this may cost cca twice as much as the minibus.
If you want to use the public transportation:
Go to this site. However, we strongly
suggest that on your arrival you take a minibus or (if you do not
arrive at the airport) a taxi to the hotel.
How to get to the conference venue from the hotel by public transportation:
Take bus No. 22 direction 'Moszkva tér' to the last stop. At 'Moszkva tér' take metro No. 2 (red line) to 'Astoria'. The institute is 3 minutes walking distance from Astoria, see the description here. The whole journey is cca 40 minutes. If you are staying at Hotel Tiliana, you will receive breakfast at the hotel each morning.
During the conference days (Monday to Friday) there will be organized lunch. (Details later...)
There will be no arrangement for daily joint dinner.
WARNING!
When going out for dinner: especially in some inner-city restaurants
check carefully the menu-list and prices before ordering. Some
restaurants have really bad fame of overcharging the naive foreigner.
Conference Dinner:
We plan to organise a (not very formal) conference dinner for Thursday evening. But this is still to be settled.
A seven day travel card, valid for the public transportation in Budapest for the conference days, is provided to all pariticipants. You will receive your travel card upon arrival to hotel Tiliana, or at the venue of the conference upon registration.WARNING!
When using public transport: beware of pickpockets.
the Hungarian currency is called Forint (HUF)
Today's rate:
06. 04. 2006.
EUR 1.00 = HUF 268
USD 1.00 = HUF 217
You can change money on arrival at the airport or in the railway
stations, probably the rate is slightly less favorable than in banks or
cash-dispensers (ATMs). At the airport and all over the city there are
cash-dispenser machines (ATMs) which accept all major credit
cards. This is certainly the best choice for geting local money. You
can also normally use your credit card in restaurants and
larger shops.
Banks are open usually Monday to Friday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
If you have any other question/problem do not hesitate to ask the organisers.
