Levels of mathematical modeling in systems neuroscience

Neurons of the central nervous system use a binary digital code for communication, lending itself to statistical and information theory analysis. Moreover, mathematical models are used to interpret neural activity, networks of neurons, systems of networks and animal behavior, all embedded in multiple theoretical frameworks. I will showcase the cross-fertilization of applied mathematics and neurophysiology through a diverse set of studies concerning network dynamics and synchrony, learning, attention and decision making.
