How to get to the hotel?

From Ferihegy Airport:
Take the ``Airport Minibus'' shuttle service. They have service desks in the arrivals hall (turn right as you leave the customs area). When buying the ticket at the desk you have to  state your destination  (i.e. the name and address of the hotel). They start a minibus  (8-seater) when cca 6 people  going approximately in the same  direction are gathered. Typically  one has to wait cca 5-10 minutes. The fare between the airport and the city is  HUF 1800 (that is  cca EUR 7).
(Return tickets are sold at HUF 3300, it is worth buying a return ticket. You will use it when leaving.)

You may also take a taxi, but that could cost cca threetimes as much.

If you want to use the public transportation:
Go to this site.  However, we strongly suggest that on your arrival you take a minibus or (if you do not arrive at the airport) a taxi to the hotel.

How to get to the conference venue from the hotel:

A bus will pick you up each morning of the conference to take you to the Institute. You can also go on your own using public transportation, but the morning traffic is usually quite heavy.

Meals:

If you are staying at Hotel Tiliana, you will receive breakfast at the hotel each morning.

During the conference days (Monday to Friday) there will be organized lunch. (Details later...)

There will be no arrangement for daily joint dinner.

WARNING!
When going out for dinner: especially in some inner-city restaurants check carefully the menu-list and prices before ordering. Some restaurants have really bad fame of overcharging the naive foreigner.

Conference Dinner:

We plan to organise a (not very formal) conference dinner for Wednesday evening. But this is still  to be  settled.

Public Transport in Budapest:

You must buy your bus/tram/trolley/metro tickets in advance. You can buy them in the underground stations, in railway stations etc. One single ticket costs  HUF 170, for a booklet of  ten tickets you pay HUF 1450, for a booklet of twenty you pay HUF 2800. (A ticket is valid for one ride only. If you change, you  have to validate a new one.) You can also buy a travel card valid for three, resp., seven consecutive days for HUF 2700, resp., HUF 3100.

You can find the homepage of the public transport system here .

WARNING!
When using public transport: beware of pickpockets.

Money Exchange:

the Hungarian currency is called Forint (HUF)

Today's rate:

24. 04. 2004.

EUR 1.00 = HUF 250

USD 1.00 = HUF 191

You can change money on arrival at the airport or in the railway stations, probably the rate is slightly less favorable than in banks or cash-dispensers (ATMs). At the airport and all over the city there are cash-dispenser machines (ATMs) which accept all major credit cards. This is certainly the best choice for geting local money. You can also normally use your credit card in restaurants and larger shops.

Banks are open usually Monday to Friday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
