How to choose a project and supervisor ? – Most
important things to know
Students must sign
up for the training projects on their own before the end of the first week.
The list
of the available projects and all other necessary
information can be found on my homepage that I constantly keep
up-to date.
First, go through
carefully the short description of the projects. If you find
an interesting project, do not hesitate to contact its supervisor to
have more detailed information. I
suggest you to contact the project supervisors in time, in
order to have enough time to get to know each other and
discuss about the topic. I think this preparative phase is
really important and enough time should be devoted to it. This
subject plays an important role in our formation and student
can profit a lot from the project if he/she is committed and a
good cooperation is set with the supervisor. If necessary,
feel free to discuss your choice with your tutor.
If you do not find any project
that suits you please contact me and I will try to find an
arrangement.
The aim of the course is
to see real life applications
and to learn to cooperate
with professionals having specialization other than
mathematics. Thus, the project
topic must cover an applied problem and be supervised by
someone coming outside of the Mathematical Institute.
Subject
requirements include a 5-10 page written summary of the work at the end of the
semester, wich must be submitted by January 15, along
with a 15-minute lecture presentation. Due to the
extraordinary circumstances, there will be no oral
report.
The final grade is based on the
recommendation of the Supervisor and the written work.
If you have any question
or you need further information, please feel free to contact
me. I am doing my best to help you.
