Improvised place &
improvised time
A
site-specific movement research series (participation is free!), led by
Gabor Pete
First place:
Berkeley Marina, meeting at the NW
corner
First time: March 15, Monday,
10 am - 1 pm, March 16, Tuesday, 9 am -
noon, in 2004.
In these two mornings, I will
propose a series of exercises from warm-up to improv performances. The idea is
to understand what this specific place and time, with its wind and birds and
sun-bathing people give to our being and to our dance, and what we as dancers
can give to this place and time. The exercises will help us listen more to the
nature, and act freely in it. The first day will focus on solo experiences, the
second on us as a group. Please join if you feel like!
All levels are welcome, but please inform me in advance, since the research plan
will be absolutely dependent on the participants. No improv performance
experience is necessary, but be prepared e.g. to dancing in mud in case it will
be raining! Contact me at (510) 843 3691 or gabor@stat.berkeley.edu.
About myself:
I have been extensively studying dance improvisation since 1999, mainly in
Europe (Hungary, the Netherlands). But, for example, two recent workshops
in the Bay Area I participated in, and enjoyed extremely, were contact improv by
Karl Frost and action theater by Sten Rudstrom. In Berkeley I am doing my PhD in
probability theory. For more info, see my homepage
