Measuring the burden of an epidemic - methods and models
In the lecture, I'll discuss the questions associated with measuring the burden of an epidemic. While it might sound straightforward, the issues involved are far from being trivial. I'll detail two particular problems: defining and measuring the excess mortality, and calculating the years of life lost. In case of the excess mortality, I'll discuss the underlying statistical models in more detail.
