The mathematical background of atomic swaps among blockchains

The classical way to exchange digital assets is to use a centralized exchange, which goes against the decentralized property of crypto currencies. There has been an increased interest in finding alternative solutions to eliminate the need for these centralized crypto currency exchanges. Atomic swaps enable digital asset holders to exchange their tokens without intermediaries. The lecture will overview how a transaction in a blockchain works, and how to ensure that two transactions in different blockchains can be performed simultaneously with the cooperation of the parties, and without the risk that a party is worse off in any of the stages of the exchange.
