The Institute of Mathematics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at BME was established in 1998 from the mathematics departments on different faculties of BME.
Beside the teaching of thousands of undergraduate students in engineering, a successful mathematics education is available on bachelor's, master's and PhD level. A speciality of our mathematics education is the introdution of students into various branches of applied mathematics based on the exceptional opportunities provided by the engineering environment. At the restructuring of the bachelor's degree program, we decreased the number of contact hours. Instead, the emphasis was moved towards individual and team work and we announced new courses in data sciences.
The Institute consists of five departments:
Department of Algebra,
Department of Analysis,
Department of Differential Equations,
Department of Geometry,
Department of Stochastics.
Our research is worldwide acknowledged in probability theory and related areas, in algebra and computer science, in operation research, in quantum information theory and mathematical physics.
